Frequently Asked Questions

What method of carpet cleaning do you use?

We use the Hot Water Extraction Method. Many carpet manufacturers recommend professional hot water extraction as the most effective carpet cleaning method. In addition to this we also use a rotary carpet cleaner for deep cleaning and effective distribution of detergents.

What is hot water extraction?

Commonly known as steam cleaning, the hot water extraction cleaning method uses equipment that sprays heated water, with added cleaning chemicals, on the carpet while simultaneously vacuuming the sprayed water along with any dislodged and dissolved dirt. The water can also be cold if hot water is not available.

Does there have to be hot water at the property?

No. We can produce our own hot water by an inline heater. All we need is electricity as we have a water tank in the van (subject to being close to the property).

Do you really do a 7 stage process?

Yes we do! In fact we often do more than a 7 stage process and what other carpet cleaners class as an optional extra (extra charge) we do for free!

How long does it take to clean carpets?

That really depends on the job. It takes 20 minutes to unload and set up and 20 minutes to pack away. The average time on a job is 2 hours. A large house can take up to 5 hours. A very large house can take all day. As a rough guide a 3 bed semi takes about 2.5 hours.

How long do carpets take to dry?

It depends how deep the pile is and the temperature. Normally carpets are touch dry within a few hours. Heating speeds up the process dramatically, as does good ventilation. Our machines do not over wet the carpets!

TURBO DRY: We use massive turbo air dryers to leave the carpets almost dry and in most cases completely dry! Available free of charge on the Gold & Gold Plus carpet cleaning service.

Can I walk on the carpets after cleaning?

We recommend that you try not to but we appreciate this can be difficult. Ask us for some free shoe protectors if you will be walking on damp carpets.

Do I have to move furniture?

Yes and No. We can move furniture around but it helps if the room is uncluttered. We do not move major heavy items, any cupboards that have not been emptied, antiques, delicate items and beds (as they can break easily).

Do I have to vacuum my carpets before you clean?

No. We always vacuum the carpets with a high powered commercial cleaner before cleaning.

Is there any chance my carpets will shrink?

Unlikely is the simple answer. We do not leave carpets soaking wet and we do not use high temperatures for a prolonged period. We take extra care on wool and Belgian Wilton carpets. We use a turbo dryer to assist removal of excess moisture. If your carpets are away from the grippers we will advise to get them repaired before cleaning.

Can all stains be removed?

We carry a professional selection of advanced stain removers so most stains can. We also carry a commercial steam cleaner that operates at 161ºC for stubborn stains and heavily soiled areas. Some stains are impossible to remove and it depends on the carpet and stain type.

Can traffic areas be cleaned so they are not visible

If the carpet is heavily soiled and worn then they can be improved but the chances are that the carpet fibres will have been damaged and therefore the traffic area will remain to some degree. If the carpet is in good condition then they can be removed. Soiled areas with high traffic causes the carpets to grey or darken by abrasion and the colour is worn from the carpet. This is called carpet greying.

Can all odours be removed?

The answer is normally yes. We deep clean the carpets and our advanced detergents leave a fresh clean smell. We also spray the carpets with a deodoriser. If for example urine or sick has penetrated to the underlay then some smell will remain as it is trapped. Under these circumstances the carpet should be lifted and investigated.

Can you clean wool and wool mix carpets?

Yes we can. We carry several types of detergents and will access the carpet before cleaning.

Do you clean rugs?

Yes we clean many types of rugs in your home. We cannot clean silk rugs.

Do you clean Seagrass, Sisal & Coir carpets and rugs?

NO. These carpets cannot tolerate too much moisture and wetting them will ruin them! Steam cleaning is a NO! Stain removal is extremely hard and cannot be guaranteed. Most dry cleaning methods offer poor results.

Does professional carpet cleaning cause the carpet to re-soil quickly?

If the incorrect detergent is used or the detergent is not rinsed out then this can happen. We only carry professional carpet cleaning detergents that do not cause rapid re-soiling. We always rinse the carpets to return them to a safe pH

Why should I get my carpets cleaned?

Carpet manufacturers recommend that carpets are professionally cleaned 12-18 months. Dirt and debris will cause rapid wear and an unhygienic environment in your home. Odours from carpets will make your home smell. 85% of dirt and debris lives beneath the pile of the carpet. Even the worst carpets can be transformed.

I need an End of Tenancy Carpet Cleaning Service. Can you help?

We provide an End of Tenancy Carpet Cleaning service. We can also offer a service for pet owners (de-infestation and deodorisation). A certificate is given to the tenant to produce to the agent or property owner.

Do you provide a receipt after cleaning my carpets?

Yes we always provide an invoice detailing the work carried out and the cost.
