Why Do Carpet Cleaning Prices Vary So Much?
Good question! I suppose it depends on where you live and the number of carpet cleaning businesses in that area. The more there are the greater the competition and then the price drops. You would think London would be the most expensive for carpet cleaning. Think again! Prices seen quite low compared to other areas. There are a lot of people doing it and competition is fierce. People will drop the price to secure the job. If a carpet cleaner is so busy that they can’t cope with the volume of work then they up their prices. If they are not busy they will lower their prices.
A Common Misconception
Often we will quote for a job and then get told by the customer that they have had a cheaper quote. This is a common occurrence and a misconception. A lower price for what exactly? Are they offering the same level of service? Are they a professional carpet cleaner? How deep will the clean be? See where I’m going with this. The price can only be lower if the cheaper carpet cleaner is offering exactly the same service. We all do things slightly different and of course there are good carpet cleaning companies and there are bad. Just like any other industry.
Why Don’t All Carpet Cleaners Show Their Prices?
I’m not exactly sure to be honest. I guess some make it up as they go along. This is why we display our carpet cleaning prices and that way there is no misunderstanding. It also saves on giving quotations to customers. “Win Some – Lose Some”. Yes we do lose sometimes on carpets that need double the effort and work to get clean. On the other hand a carpet might need a lot less work and we can clean it in half the time. We take the rough with the smooth, so to speak. Either way it is much fairer to display prices. It stops unfair trading. You wouldn’t shop in a supermarket with no prices! Would you?
Carpet Cleaning Prices Explained
The prices are set by many factors. The cost of equipment to start with. A professional set-up can cost many thousands of pounds. The number of employees (if any). The cost of advertising. The cost of premises. The cost of transportation. These are the main factors. Then there is the type of carpet cleaning service and the time taken to perform this. Is it a basic quick clean or a deeper clean? Are you having any extras, such as Scotchgard. A customer can only compare the price if the type of service is applicable to what they need and want. An important point is always make sure you fully understand the total price before work is started. Always check if tax or vat is applicable.
